The external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS / SATE) is considered the most efficient way of thermally insulating an existing property to be renovated. In addition to the advantages in comfort that it entails, the revaluation of the property after the installation of the ETICS/SATE far exceeds the investment made.
What is ETICS
ETICS is an external system for the thermal insulation of buildings, that is supplied as a set (kit). These systems must have at least a thermal resistance value equal to or greater than 1 m2 K/W, as indicated in the ETAG 004 guide and UNE-EN 13499 and 13500 standards. They are used both in new construction and in building refurbishment.
This facade insulation system can be classified according to the type of fixing, insulating material used, by application and type of finish.
It is especially important to respect the concept of ETICS as an integral façade system. This means that each component is part of the whole, ensuring system compatibility and the best result. All the components of an ETICS must be conceived and tested jointly for the use that is going to be given to the system. This must be respected from the prescription to the after-sales service, passing through the supply and application.
With the ETICS system, the exterior of the building is clad and insulated, adapting to its its geometries, even the most complex, without discontinuity. Therefore, when it is correctly designed and installed, it can easily resolve most of the thermal bridges in the building.
This action definitively corrects the energy problems of buildings which is of the utmost importance today. Homes will be more comfortable and consume much less, moreover problems associated with the lack of thermal insulation such as humidity inside or excessive noise, will also be resolved.
The wide range of coatings and finishes allows to improve the aesthetics of the building. Furthermore, as it is installed from the outside, access to the dwellings is not required. ETICS systems are respectful with the environment and with the surroundings.
All these advantages will increase the value of your home, in fact, the considerable reduction in energy consumption means that its application cannot be considered an expense but rather an investment.

Advantages of ETICS
This measure definitively corrects the problems of buildings with energy criteria that are of the utmost importance today. Homes will be more comfortable and consume much less, and problems associated with the lack of thermal insulation will be resolved, such as humidity inside or excessive noise

Where can the ETIC system be applied?
Thermal rehabilitation can be applied to any building, whether it is a single-family home, a semi-detached house or a block of flats. From Prolisur we can advise you to rehabilitate your private home or community of neighbors.
The application of the ETICS system can only be carried out by specialized professionals. These specialists must also have experience on the support in which it is going to be applied.
The surface to be treated must be capable of resisting combined loads such as the weight provided by the system and environmental loads. At Prolisur we have experts and engineers who must previously study the structural conditions of the building in question to ensure its viability.
Types of ETICS systems
We can thermally insulate a building with different types of ETICS systems, depending on the type of fixing, insulating material used, application and type of finish.
It is useless to plan an ETICS rehabilitation with elements that are not part of a verified set complemented with the European standard UNE-EN 13163 and the CE mark.
The best ETICS are the following:
ETICS with expanded polystyrene (EPS)
It uses insulating panels that are fixed to the façade with a special adhesive mortar and mechanical anchoring. These panels are covered with reinforced mortar and a mesh, to later give a decorative finish.
ETICS with mineral wool (MW)
Ideal for improving the acoustic insulation of the façade due to its properties. It has high breathability and fire resistance.
ETICS with shaped polyurethane (PUR)
Very efficient and durable, with low conductivity and a closed cell structure that favors increased energy savings.
ETICS with expanded cork
Very durable, resistant to marine environments and 100% sustainable.
ETICS with extruded polystyrene (XPS)
A solution for baseboards and in lower areas of façade enclosures.
ETICS with cellular glass
It is a lightweight, rigid and durable insulation material made up of millions of completely sealed glass cells. It is non-combustible, has superior compressive strength and guaranteed water and steam tightness. In short, long-lasting thermal insulation.
What is the price of ETICS per square meter?
The price per square meter of insulation using ETICS is within a range of €60 to €80, depending on the materials used. An extremely competitive price that, in addition, is immediately reflected in a reduction in the electricity bill of each home.
How many years does ETICS last?
ETICS that we prescribe and execute at Prolisur can have the same durability as the building itself. Maintenance is virtually non-existent, although a review is recommended if subsequent changes and installations are made.
Other insulation options
In certain circumstances, the application of ETICS may be unfeasible (consult us). However, there are other systems that will help you reduce your energy bill. At Prolisur we also work with a Blown-in insulation solution that will ensure that your home maintains a stable interior temperature at all times, thus reducing environmental pollution.
It is a cheaper, faster system that does not modify the appearance of the façade Additionally, it favors acoustic insulation and makes the support fireproof.
